Traveling in Rwanda. Our route.

We went to Rwanda in March 2015
during a complete trip (8 months) around southern and eastern Africa

Rwanda, “le pays des mille colines” (the country of one thousand hills).
For sure many more! Rwanda is beautiful, green, small fields and houses everywhere.

If you are planning a budget trip in Rwanda, here we shared some information for low cost travellers. We visit Rwanda in March 2015 during 10 days, in public transport, doing couchsurfing and sleeping in small hotels. You can see all the useful information at the right sidebar menu.

We were travelling between Tanzania and Uganda. We mainly crossed Rwanda from east to west, visited a couple of towns on Lake Kivu connected by ferry boat, then took the beautul volcanoes route via Musanze to Kisoro (Uganda).
Recommended route! We liked it!

Rwanda doesn´t see many tourists... But it´s was easy even for the budget traveller.

This was our route in Rwanda:
From march 17th til 27 march 2015 (10 days/10 nights).

From Rusumo (Tanzania) to Cyanika (Uganda):

-          Kibungo (1 night)
-          Kigali ( 3 nights, couchsurfing)
-          Kibuye (3 nights)
-          Gisenyi (2 nights)
-          Musanze (1 night, couchsurfing)

We stayed in hotels (room), except mencionned (couchsurfing).
Total: around 550 km (tarred roads and ferry).

Will I see more travellers in Rwanda?
Not really, specially out of season. We maybe crossed a couple of backpackers.
We saw some tourists in the Genocide Memorial in Kigali.
You will see a few volunteers or expats, around the Lake (Kibuye, Gisenyi), many in Kigali. And some groups heading to the gorillas tracking around Gisenyi-Musanze.
Rwanda is not yet a big tourist destination.
