Cheap accomodation in Namibia.

3 months road trip in Southern Africa,
Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland.
October - December 2014

  Average exchange rate: 1 € =  13,75 N$

In the main towns of Namibia you find plenty of accommodation to suit everybody.
But some areas of the country are really empty (for example the big southwest) and you will have to plan well your route and stops as only a few camps around.

The quality is really good, most of the places are new. Usually there is hot shower, toilet paper, pool in the camps. Accommodation is nice.

You can usually pay by credit card, but bring also cash just in case.

Do I need to book in advance?
We never booked anything but it´s true that camping usually there´s no problem and october-november it´s low season.
If you want a room in Etosha during holidays, you will have to book well in advance. Same in the tourist spots where there are not too many rooms (remote and imited areas).
Keep in mind that the big holidays are around Christmas and in june mainly. July and august can also get crowded with European people. Prices are higher and if travelling in that period it´s better you contact the places in advance and enquire about the situation.

Most of the camps and lodges have websites and contact e-mails and usually they are happy to answer.

  Rooms - hotels  in Namibia

Rooms are quite expensive in Namibia, it´s not a good solution if your budget in limited. The prices start from around 40 € for a double room.
And not too many backpackers with dorms outside towns.
Accommodation inside the national parks is not cheap except the campsites.
So, if you are an independent traveller on a budget, the solution is: camping!

Camping in Namibia, the cheapest accommodation

Camping it´s the budget accommodation option for Namibia. Perfect for independent travallers.

In average, the price for camping is 100 N$/pp (around 7 €/pp).
So carrying a tent is really interesting to save money.

Most of the lodges and camps have rooms and also a campsite. So expect very good campsites (like in Europe), with clean toilets, hot showers, electricity points, BBQ but ususally no kitchen.

Only a few places in towns offer free wifi.
Usually there are swimming pools.
Credit cards usually avalaible.

  Couchsurfing in Namibia

It´s an empty country with a small population, so the CS community is really limited to the biggest towns.

We had nice CS experiences in Tsumeb, Swakopmund, Walvis Bay and Aussenkehr.
